Once I saw a drummer on television who translated newspaper reports into rythms. I understood that with more instruments it must be possible to convert any reason or given into music and that any tune that keeps running through the mind during painting is an important guide. Just like every listener will have his own memories evoked while listening to a certain song or just like every reader will depict his own personal image of the principal character in a novel, I want my paintings to become personal interpretations of the surrounding reality, coloured by my view and by my state of mind. I consider my buildings to be self- portraits, accurately reflecting my innermost feelings at that time. I wish to create original art, not just art about art. Every image has to be first-hand. I feel that this is the only way the artist can escape the fear that everything has been done before. As long as one tries to create art in the most personal way possible, it does not matter that everything has been painted ten times before. Then even an everyday subject like the urban surroundings can provide the artist with enough inspiration for an inexhaustible series of paintings.
